Squib Update
The Squib fleet at Mayo Sailing Club now have four boats competitively racing in the Autumn Series: 434 Fresh Tacks: Niall O'Sullivan and David Baird, 319 Gizmo: Bobby Conlon and Matthew Conlon winners of the Summer Series, 504 Adventure Island: Ciaran and Treacy Collins, 314 Snuff: Fiona Bourke and Noel Conlon. A fifth boat is rumoured to be making it's way to Mayo this month. The format is simple: 'get yourself a Squib and get racing and be the first boat across the line to win', couldn't be easier. The boats are crewed by 2 people but can sail just as well with 3. The objective is to race under the National Squib Rules Of Racing in order to compete at away regatta's. A crew hope to compete at the upcoming 'Easterns' in Dun Laoghaire on the 25th and 26th September as a trial run for the mid October first ever 'inlands' on Lough Derg. The Squibs will be racing with the Dragon's and SB3's on the weekend of 17th. Learn to sail a Squib... A new sailing school has just opened on Collanmore Island. see www.theadventureislands.com for details. The sailing school will specialise in Adult Keelboat Sailing lessons and use a fleet of Squibs as the main training boats. Clients will also have the opportunity to rent a Squib for day cruise or for racing.
